Video Preview
Birch can display live video preview from your sources directly in the web interface. This lets you visually confirm what’s on a source or destination without needing a separate monitor.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”The Birch appliance receives video from your sources and makes it available for preview in the browser. Preview appears inline in the routing panel and on device pages where video is available.
Requirements
Section titled “Requirements”Video preview requires:
- A compatible video source connected to the appliance
- The appliance’s video services running (deployed as part of the standard service setup)
- A modern web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge)
Local vs. remote preview
Section titled “Local vs. remote preview”- On the local network — Video preview connects directly between your browser and the appliance for the lowest latency.
- Over the cloud — When accessing Birch remotely, video is relayed through the cloud. Latency is slightly higher but preview remains functional.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”If video preview isn’t appearing:
- Verify the appliance’s services are running (check the admin panel System section)
- Confirm video sources are connected and producing signal
- Try a different browser to rule out browser-specific issues
- See the Video Preview troubleshooting guide for detailed diagnostics
