What is Birch?
Birch is a broadcast router control platform built by Whitebark. It provides a modern, web-based interface for controlling video and audio routers in broadcast and production environments.
Why Birch?
Section titled “Why Birch?”Traditional router control systems often rely on proprietary hardware panels and aging software. Birch replaces these with a unified platform that works across router protocols, accessible from any web browser.
Key capabilities:
- Multi-protocol router control — Connect routers using Videohub, SW-P-08, Ultrix, GVG Native, and other common protocols through a single interface.
- Real-time routing — Create and monitor routes with instant feedback. Source and destination status updates in real time.
- Video preview — View live video sources directly in the browser.
- Cloud connectivity — Access your routing infrastructure from anywhere. Birch connects on-premises appliances to the cloud for remote management.
- Multi-organization support — Manage multiple facilities or clients from a single account with organization-based isolation.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”Birch has two main components:
The Appliance
Section titled “The Appliance”A device deployed at your facility. The appliance:
- Connects directly to your routers over the local network
- Communicates with each router using its native control protocol
- Handles real-time route execution with minimal latency
- Provides video preview from local sources
The Cloud
Section titled “The Cloud”A hosted service that provides:
- Web-based user interface accessible from any browser
- Authentication and user management
- Real-time data synchronization between appliances and the browser
- Persistent storage of routing configuration
