Deploying Services

Once the appliance is associated with an organization and the network is configured, you can deploy and start Birch services.

  1. Open the admin panel and scroll to the System section.

  2. Verify the environment — Confirm the environment toggle shows the correct setting (Staging or Production). This determines which cloud environment the appliance connects to.

  3. Check for updates — Click “Check Updates” to see if a newer version is available.

  4. Apply update — Click “Apply Update” to download and start Birch services. The process runs through three phases:

    • Downloading — Fetches the latest service configuration
    • Pulling — Downloads the service images
    • Restarting — Stops any existing services and starts the updated ones
  5. Verify — Once complete, all services should show as running in the admin panel.

After services start, verify the appliance is connected:

  1. Sign in to the Birch web interface — Your appliance should appear on the Dashboard as an online node.
  2. Check the admin panel — The System section shows service status.
